Hoisin Burgers—Recipe

Recipes from Jenna, chef and owner of The Annex Hodge Podge, are always welcome. Today we have one for a hoisin burger, that Jenna tells us is extremely low fat and very tasty. The instructions call for cooking in the oven, but no doubt they'd be just as tasty off the grill!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons (keep for later) and 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 pounds of lean ground beef (5% fat or less)
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 1/2 tablespoons finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
4 scallions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
8 whole wheat hamburger buns

method:
- preheat the oven to 350 degrees
- to make the sauce, mix the ketchup and 2 teaspoons of hoisin sauce in a medium bowl
- gently toss the beef, the remaining 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce, the cilantro, ginger, scallions and garlic in a large bowl just until blended.
- form into 8 patties.
-place the patties on a piece of parchment on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes at 350.
- switch the oven to broil and put the timer on for another 10 minutes.

Top the whole wheat buns with fresh vegetables of your choice. Jenna recommends red pepper, lettuce and onion.
