Summertime and the Lighting is easy…..at Union Lighting

It’s time to make your house the envy of the evening stroll. Whether up lighting an archway for dramatic effect, grazing a textured fence with a splash of light or silhouetting a tree or bush—landscape lighting improves both the look and feel of your home.

Mark Naimer, owner of Union Lighting and Furnishings, Toronto’s largest lighting store, advises us that when choosing landscape lighting, a very important rule is Less is More.

Mark says “Ideally, you only want to see the landscape or the lighting effect. You don’t want to see the light bulbs, as they can give off quite a glare at night. Hidden lighting is the ideal choice for flower beds and walkways.” Mark also recommends better quality fixtures made of cast aluminum as they can handle much higher wattage than inexpensive plastic units.

Landscape lighting can also play a more important role in your home’s safety. Many lights have built-in timers to control their operation to automatically turn on fixtures at dusk and off at dawn. These can help in illuminating steps, paths and driveways to prevent after-dark accidents, light up obscure spots when someone passes by, and even provide protection when you’re away from home by keeping your home looking occupied.
