Is Your Home Ready for Winter? Tips from King’s Mill Construction
Wednesday, December 8, 2010
It’s that time of year again, winter is coming. Here are a few tips to be ready for the frosty weather.
Ensure all exterior taps are turned off and drained. Remove any water from areas that can be damaged by the expanding ice. Clean the eaves troughs to ensure proper drainage. Consider installing leaf guards. Protect your precious plants. Consider using a plant friendly ice melt product instead of salt. Your driveway and walkways will like it too. Stock up now.
Have your furnace or boiler inspected, ducts cleaned and filter changed. Clean the dryer vent too! If you have radiators, bleed out the air and ensure you have enough pressure in the system. Consider installing a programmable thermostat to save energy. Get your fireplaces and chimneys cleaned. Order the firewood now. Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
