K9 Rescue Me—until there are none, rescue one!
Monday, March 8, 2010
In 2003 Jennifer Ego was organizing a fund-raising event to aid canine rescue groups. She recognized that many are operated by a small staff and are in dire need of financial aid for their work placing unwanted dogs in loving, forever homes. K9 Rescue Me was the answer and it nows helps fund more than 30 different canine rescue groups in Ontario.
K9 Rescue Me’s Walk-A-Thon event, at Toronto’s wildly popular Woofstock, is its most successful fund-raising event—last year they raised more than $110,000. Hosted by CP24’s Ann Rohmer, this year the event takes place on Sunday, June 13th. Other fund raising events include a calendar and donations through their website.
Funds raised by K9 Rescue Me go to these deserving rescue groups, with money used to care for the dogs, until they can be adopted.
Are you interested in adding a dog to your home? Many of the rescue group are breed-specific, with pure-bred dogs in need of loving homes. Instead of purchasing a dog, consider adopting an older dog from one of these groups. Older dogs offer some great benefits: older dogs have known personality traits, that make them an excellent choice for households with small children; what you see is what you get—older dogs have reached their maximum size, there will be no surprises. In addition, they are likely to be house, and possibly, obedience trained. They have also probably graduated from the chew-everything stage!
Consider making a donation through K9’s website, as a gift for family or friends, or as a memorial pledge for a departed pet. You can specify which rescue group you would like to support (the website lists all the groups that are members). Gifts can be personalized and tax receipts are issued immediately by e-mail.
Your donations to K9 Rescue Me allows these rescue groups to continue to do great work—brightening dog’s lives by finding them permanent and loving forever homes. Visit www.K9RescueMe.com for more details.
